The success of any action photography depends on:
1) the ability for the camera to grab the initial focus quickly, and
2) lock the focus on the subject as it moves
I’m going to show you the three core settings in any camera to shoot fast actions, and the example in this tutorial is pet photography. I had two cute Pomeranian dogs run towards the camera, and used the Sony a7iii and Canon R5 camera respectively for the demonstration.
1) The 3 core settings in any camera (00:00-7:29)
-Shutter speed (01:48)
-Drive Mode (04:43)
-Focusing (05:26)
2) Settings in Sony a7iii (7:30-9:00)
3) Demo with Sony a7iii (9:00-10:44)
4) Settings in Canon R5 (10:45-12:59)
5) Demo with Canon R5 (13:00)
Notes:
1) Fast shutter speeds were used in this example.
2) Using slow shutter speed for tracking actions is called “panning”, and this is not today’s focus.
