    You look great Ben!
I was born in the early 70's and my Mom never brought different skin colors to my attention. It wasn't until my my late pre teens, early teens that it came to my attention that some people hate people of different colors. And I didn't understand why. My best friend in elementary school was from Vietnam. There was an interracial couple a couple doors down. I still don't understand why some people are so fucken hate filled. It's not childish imo, because hate is tought.

What they did to the pools is exactly what the white people did to everything else once segregation ended

That's why they want to control education, censoring books, and actively fighting against access to education.

Excellent video, Ben, thanks. Tail end of baby boom, here. Have always been a hippie and a leftist πŸ™‚
I disagree with the part about Reagan and race politics, Reagan was all about de-regulation for the benefit of corporations. He was the one responsible for "trickle down economics" and the take over of our countries by big business. Racial effects , for the right of the time, was just a bonus
    Keep on, keepin' on πŸ™‚

They talked about gun reform when the Black Panthers went to the Capitol building armed. Maybe we can learn from history.

Wasn't this a theme in the book 1984? Going back and changing out facts that didn't fit the current party line. Or I should say the parties current line?

I remember. I was four when Martin Luther King was assassinated. My mother wept. RFK gave his speech at Broadway Park, now MLK park in my city.
I remember the racist parents raising hell during school desegregation in the '70's and the riots they instigated in the high schools.
This "boomer" is still disgusted by them and their magaT children.

Side note, totally off subject: Ben, beautiful sibling, please don't take offense at my suggestion, I'm a cosmetologist, I can't help it. Please try moving your part higher, centering over your pupil when you're looking directly forward into your mirror, and angle it slightly towards the center. I think you'll like the effect. Good proportion. Works well on people with longer hair. πŸ’™πŸ’–πŸ’œ

Most of my family being from South Georgia, this hits me different. There are many stories I've heard about not only Jim Crow and segregation. But what happened before that as well.

My dad was born in 1955.
His mother was born in 1936.
Her mother was born in 1919.
    Slavery ended 1865.

These were people that I knew, spoke to, and could touch. So when people say it was so long ago. For me, and others like me, it wasn't that long ago.

Anything abhorrent, tragic or sorrowful can be traced back to our conservative Americans. Conservatives tell us all the time who they are. We need to treat them accordingly.

I live in Lynchburg VA. We used to have a public pool in a local park. When desegregation hit the city government filled it with debris so it couldn't be used and then eventually buried it in the ground. There's a podium where it stood with pictures of it. The local government is only recently considering unearthing it to actually do something with it.

Y'all don't know what old photos really do to people if they've moved past something that's displayed or highlighted or referenced in that older photo, do y'all? I'm only replying based on the title of the video. Nothing against this news channel or TYT, of course, I've been a fan, but I get the urge to watch maybe one thing about news a week, if that nowadays. Depression and lack of return in care for what I've been through has destroyed my motivation. I can't even take responsibility for what I did in the past knowing what I know now, I can hardly blame my family for the wrongs they've put me through. Life sucks right now, it's depressing, it's a I want to die kind of life because of what I've learned. Being a scientist must actually suck knowing what they've figured out before me.

I have a copy of a letter from a medical school denying entry to a black man because they aren't accepting "colored" people into their institution. The letter was from 1965.

I remember my mother talking about this community pool she used to go to as a kid in the 59s & 60s. Then she pointed it out to me. It was right between the high school and library. But there it stood, vacant and unused.
The year my mother graduated HS (β€˜66) was the last year it was coed. After that it was boys only (until β€˜88). All of this was due to desegregation.

Hello? We had George Wallace run for President and many of the things he was saying are being said by the Republican Party. It's not just racism . It's anyone they don't like. They would call you white trash for what you are saying.

My Dad, Asian American, was a political activist in the 60s, 70s & 80s. I met Barry Goldwater as a little girl while he courted my father & his followers for votes in Southern Arizona. My Dad hated him & to this day I can't eat cold fried chicken w/o remembering having to shake the softest human hands ever. Goldwater never did a day's labor in his life but still worked hard to keep people like my mother & father from marrying in AZ in 1971. Way past the Loving vs Virginia case forced states to marry interracial couples. They finally were able to marry in AZ in 1971 (52 yrs. in February!). Racist people like AuH2O are out of their dens & slithering around again. Soft, cold, slimey hands & all.

In 1961 I was a 10 yo on my first family trip to Florida. Was at the grocery store with my parents and my dad and I went to get a drink of water. No problem there were 2 water fountains. As we were walking away my dad asked if I noticed the sign I said no so I turned around to look. It said " Colored Only". I looked at my dad and said that doesn't make sense to which a small group of African American men started to laugh. My dad turned and the men waved and smiled at him. Dad waved back as we walked away. Still remember like it happened yesterday.

Boomers went from free love and flower power to the me 80s, a nose full of cocaine and voting for Reagan. All in the blink of an eye it seamed. Donnor fatigue they called it. The Hippies turned Yuppies were bribed by the financial elites with the future of every generation yet to come. It was painful to watch.
