Before & After: This Family Home Gets An Indoor/Outdoor Makeover

Before & After: This Family Home Gets An Indoor/Outdoor Makeover

In this Toronto home, Saara Mortson of Mortson Interior Design Inc. and Deborah Mesher of Drole House Inc. came together to blend interior with architectural design. They updated and expanded the front porch, replacing old stucco with a red brick-like tile facade. Inside, they removed walls, doors and cramped hallways for better flow, while integrating room partitions, including an original pocket door in the living room. A contemporary kitchen with durable materials and a spacious mudroom brings much-needed function to the busy family of five.

You know that hallway is gonna get cluttered with coats and boots! It’s just styled now with one coat and two boots! You didn’t give them a practical solution to that

I love how clean and understated the design is. Very approachable! Also, I really appreciate that both the architect and the interior designer were brought along to present this home. It all turned out lovely! Good job!

Wow! The design and beauty of this renovation is gorgeous and inspiring. I love how they incorporated the extension of the the kitchen cabinets into the dining room. Very clever design.

Beautiful design which exemplifies a modern feel that is not over done. The black and white tiles are not over done, and they are just the right size for the hall.

Notice so many of your group speak with that way of not making a statement but a sort of question sing song speech. It’s getting annoying now that everyone is doing that. You are professionals and need to be more assertive when speaking please. I love the show and all designers, it’s just the ending of each sentence that is hard to hear. I’m sorry and do not wish to make fun but this might be a good time to reevaluate.

The interior is nice. The entry is a cute space. Like how they arranged the kitchen/dining for versatility.

Modernize the exterior now and in a few years people will rue it. This does look nice as a whole, and as a little bit of contrast the the neighbors, but a bunch of these looks ugly. It needs the contrast of its neighbors to give it oomph.
