In this price range not a lot of competition. It will sell a lot.

So today I learned that the 'dots' value used for viewfinders and LCD screens counts up all of the RGB subpixels, instead of a simple pixel count.
What a ridiculous bit of marketing BS, and thanks for showing the pixel resolution as well!

Is this world first camera that the buffer cannot do even a single second rated fps in RAW + JPG?
I hope Canon can update the computational photography and videography assist. So it can beat Google Night Sight and filmic Pro. EOS M50 MII can live youtube via camera. I hope this one also can, and even more.
The new video limitation is rolling shutter and heavy crop. I think one should enough. I hope R50 got 4K HQ mode.

While I don't think the EOS R APS-C cameras are bad in any way, I just don't see a good reason for getting into the system given the very limited lens lineup… And since Canon has ruled out third party options it's not even likely to improve soon.
As a beginner I would much rather invest in MFT, Sony APS-C or Fuji X, where there's a lot of lens options for me to grow.

Racing to the bottom. Please buy our car, without pedals and steering wheel on buttons, press button to change left and right rotation, by the way also only 3 wheels. Enjoy!

This is very similar to the M50. It works better with the back screen when you tap what you want to adjust and then use the wheel. Entry level uses likely use the screen more. I think it is essential that the flash is manual. I hate a flash ta pops up and flashes when I did not want. Also you can always keep the flash on and raise it when needed. Electronic first curtain has been the norm in M-series. Having fully electronic is nice. M50 has only very simple fully automatic mode on electronic.

Seems like this is a camera created for the complete novice photographer only. Had to review that for an audience made up mostly of photographers/videographers!

Cool, now canon is competing with sony a6300. Can somebody help canon? I think they lost their minds.

I mean the RF-S lens looks good in its size and the image looks okay but seriously why can't the max end of the aperture end like 5.6?

In times of smartphone photography, I really ask myself if there is still a real market for this kind of cameras?!

I have Canon M50 and this R50 is definitely NOT what I imagined to upgrade to. Bye Canon!

I don't really understand the idea behind making crop sensor camera with the same mount as full frame. For me, the crop sensor camera is to be light weight and maybe cheap. The camera itself is not very important. The lenses are main expense and weight. So, by forcing to use FF lenses, the whole benefit of crop sensor camera is negated. So you are paying the same price, for the same heavy gear with the lower quality picture. So, what is the point? I'd say Canon, Nikon and Sony should stop making crop sensor camera.

Thanks for putting the "no IBIS" right at the start of the video so I know I can just close the tab and forget this ever attempted to exist.

The useability is better on a Nikon Z50/Z30, zero upgrade reason to this or the R8. I can’t believe they haven’t put IBIS in the R8. That will massively hit sales of that camera.
This R50 is so crippled it’s a major fail. This really is nothing but a point and shoot in it’s true form.
We need one of these small cameras with 4k60fps and IBIS. No one seems willing/ capable of making it.

The only question I want answered right now is, when will Canon release an RF mount version of the EF-M 22 mm f/2? Adoption of the R system is hampered by the complete lack of affordable, fast, normal and wide angle primes. For this reason, right now, the R50 cannot replace the M50 MkII, not yet.

Panning with electronic shutter can be done – when using the camera vertically. If you match the speed of your subject correctly then the subject will not look distorted. And the kicker is: The distortions caused to the background will not be discernible in most cases as then your rolling shutter moves equally over the unsharp background. So for stills this could make the rolling shutter less of a problem (no fix for golf clubs, baseball bats or other partially fast moving subject appendages)…

I'm 10 minutes from Magnolia Gardens which is where this was filmed. Really cool Canon choose Magnolia Gardens for their camera release. I've rented camera's before I buy and go there test them out, on my channel. Great place for landscape, flowers, oak trees and wildlife.

Usual entry level Canon camera destined for landfills. Canon is trying to step into mobile phone territory with the A+ mode and “computational” stuff, but it is already too late, average users stopped buying low-end cameras for casual snapshots. Canon is saturating its portfolio with totally unnecessary cameras, crippling them artificially.

3:53 “looks like the m-mount is gonna fade away” – let’s be honest, the m-mount was secretly killed a couple of years ago, the widow just didn’t tell anyone and froze the body in the fridge to keep getting the pension (from some of us m-fans).

I'm really confused that no time was spent evaluating this camera for streaming/vlogging/content creation. I thought that's what everybody loved the M50 for. The review doesn't seem very complete without evaluating how well the R50 fills its predecessor 's shoes in this regard.

I think it would be worth reviewing workflows for social media posts, IG, Tiktok are how people are consuming there work these days, not print or even YouTube and phones are just so much better in my experience at this, such that "upgrading" from even say a four year old Pixel or Iphone is going to be disappointing.

So close to my perfect camera: R60.
Don't bungle it now Canon. 🤞
Same flip up screen, detatchable EVF, compact body pls. The form factor is perfect for street, travel, and documentary photography — Shooting from the hip, or casual selfies with the family.

I'd even preorder it with the RF22f2 pancake and the 16f2.8. At this point I'd also settle for an R200 with a mic jack.

The production on these two episodes were great. It's interesting to see Canon expanding on their bodies to the extent of how many DLSR bodies they had. I'm looking forward to the APS-C lenses above all. It was great to hear that @Chris Niccolls wanted to share images that highlighted not just these consumer level cameras, but also the consumer level lenses currently available. Curious to know your lens set up for these particular videos, @Jordan Drake, especially the shot at 7:05 since the character of it is really brought out by your composition.
