My sister and I are identical twins so it was very bad with the picture taking until one day I cried and said that I'm angry that my parents treat us like picture props instead of people and then they finally stopped

this isn’t a similar experience to this article, but my brother has insecurities of just himself in general and so my mom would upload photos of us, but not anything like that, just family stuff set the family and friends only. but kids my brother made friends with online found mom’s facebook and threatened to blackmail or share our images around, trying to think its funny or whatever. so mom had to completely lock her facebook down

My mom has photos and videos of me when I was younger throwing my binkies (when I was around 2/3), she showed this to her old friend (they aren't friends anymore) without my permission, I then asked my mom to not do that again and she just said "I took these pictures, I have the right to keep them, and since you're only 13, you don't know how many pictures we're taking just so that those memories could be with us" she also had a picture of me as her phone screen, and there are a lot of people who are nosey when it comes to looking at other peoples phones, so I asked her to change it too, she said the same thing again. I ended up "borrowing" her phone for a bit so that I would be able to change it to a picture of our family dog, she surprisingly didn't notice, but I am still very salty about what she said about the video though, especially since she isn't friends with that person anymore and since I don't know if she showed it to anyone else.

My mom always took photos of me but uploaded them privately on instagram and Facebook but i always loved having my photo taken so there is 1000s of photos of me when i was younger and i love looking back at them

That is why I actually love my parents so much. They are always so over the line when it comes to posting stuff online lmao even tho they have only like five friends on their only shared account and they never posted me when I was little. They probably did but from what ive seen on their account i have only seen two posts and I was around 7+.

i think jail time is a reasonable punishment, especially after your child repeatedly asks you for removal of those photos. at what point do we count something as CP? because in my opinion that's quite literally what it is

This reminds me of when that YouTuber Gabi Dimartino posted her own childhood nude on onlyfans!! People were outraged as they should be but what a strange thing to do even yourself. I hope this poor girl wins her case it's a little sus the parents are pushing back so hard. Even if a friend asked me to take a picture down I wouldn't hesitate to do it let alone my own child in a compromising shot of them smh

I find this really sad and disturbing… nowadays it’s so normal for people to post literally everything about their kids and leave out zero detail… I don’t personally have kids but I’m already not on social media platforms because I value my own privacy and absolutely will hold that value even higher if I have my own kids at some point. Thankfully I grew up as a kid before the internet was even popularized … and even then, my parents were very conscientious and considerate to not take explicit photos of me or my older siblings. Diapers. Sure. Maybe a bathtub photo where we are covered in soap bubbles and bath toys and nothing else is visible… but they still protected our privacy as babies. Thanks for speaking out about this

As an Austrian, I remember this case being quite big in the news. Around me, many parents actually got more concious about what they post during this time. It opened up a big debate about this topic. Just a little correction: Carinthia is the English word for Kärnten which is the state where the woman was from. Her name was actually never mentioned, I believe, as we usually don't mention names in the news here.

Jail time is what's needed here. No one should be posting those kinds of pictures of children online or anywhere for that matter.

When my kids were very young my hubby and I both chose not to post any photos of them. I was afraid because I'm a software engineer and well aware of some of the horrible things that have happened I was also aware how a few pics could cause someone to lose a job or admission to a school. When they were old enough we sat down with them and said "We have kept your social media presence blank so you could choose for yourself what you wanted to do with it." We explained the potential problems and the "once online forever online" thing and until they were 18 we asked that they clear any pics with us. We caught a LOT of heat from family and kids groups (like scouts) wanting their pictures online. We told family we'd happily email pics but not online. I have no regrets and my kids have said they're glad we did.

I feel like this is just chronically online. Like okay I get it. But Facebook profiles have the option to be private so only people you know can see what you post. Also as an adult nobody is going to know that that baby in a bathtub is you. And even if they did, why would you care? You were a literal infant and the first bath is always a sweet moment. Y’all really get worked up over the stupidest things.

my mom does this on facebook and instagram. theyre not explicit or anything, but i dont want them on the internet. ive begged her to delete all the pictures of me, but she just ignores me. even if i ask her to not post them she posts them anyway. not only is it embarrassing, it also hurts me because i feel like if she actually cared more about me she wouldnt have posted them in the first place. i never asked her to post them, i never WANTED them to be posted.
