In this video I’m preparing an awesome fruit cake for a cake smash photoshoot. I used watermelon, grapes, strawberries, kiwi and blueberries. This cake is great for children with dairy and/or egg allergies. It’s a DIY tutorial and I’m also showing Behind the Scenes videos from the actual photo shoot. You will also see the final images with my camera settings.
Here’s some of the items I use or a regular basis:

– lens Tamron 90mm F/2.8 MACRO VC for Macro shots (baby details and wedding rings for example)

– For Portraits: Godox AD400 pro with Caruba Beauty Disk and/or Caruba Parabolic Sotbox

IMPORTANT
If you are interested in photographing newborn babies yourself I would highly recommend you to first learn about photography in general. Master you camera, photograph in the Manual mode, learn about aperture, iso, shutter speed, white balance, light and composition. Take photos of your friends (adults or very patient older kids) and make sure you don’t have to think about your camera anymore when photographing babies. Learn about editing as well. Please, don’t experiment photographing Newborn babies without training. Attend a workshop by an experienced and professional photographer with an expertise in Newborn Photography. Learn about the anatomy of babies and invest in good quality cameras, lenses and props. Babies are extremely vulnerable and small and their safety and comfort should be your highest priority. Start with simple poses and make sure you know and understand that many ‘pinterest poses’ are composites. Please, don’t try this at home. If you want beautiful photos of your own Newborn Baby, I highly recommend you to hire a professional and experienced photographer who is trained and specialised in Newborn Photography.

What color is background foto?
My daughter was allergic to dairy and eggs as well (now 14 she has outgrown those allergies)! I used to work in a Mom's Day Out and we always told the parents to cut the grapes in half and sometimes they would do the wrong way which is dangerous. The word in English is "windpipe".

That looks like a lot of extra work making that fruit cake. I'm sure it's a labor of love though. I hope you build the cost of it into your sessions. You always amaze me how quickly you can get ready for your sessions on the day of…and making a cake too, I would panic! <3
I love your videos and works! When you photograph smash cake, how do you keep the part of your backdrops that comes where the babies sit clean? or I should say how do you wash/clean it? I only have a paper backdrop and I can just cut the part where it got messy and throw away and was curious how you manage that! Thank you!

I went to Walmart and got some fake flowers and greens today. Tomorrow or later tonight I'm going to go in our woods and look for a long stick. I can't wait to see what it looks like and take pictures of my baby granddaughter using it😊

how your client is reacting when in studio is your son? do you tell them before your photo session that wilt you will be your son too? I don't always know what to do, I want to give my clients the best time, but sometimes i have situation when my child has to be at home too. And i feeling but if he in same place with clients.
