Fuji Friday: Can You Photograph Kids with the Fuji XT2?

Fuji Friday: Can You Photograph Kids with the Fuji XT2?

One question that comes up with some regularity in groups I am connected with is “Can the Fujifilm XT2 AF keep up with kids?” In this demonstration I give a point of view perspective showing the capabilities of the XT2.
Now a few caveats.
Most of the time, when a photographer shows his/her images on the internet they show you ONLY the best. In this case, in the interest of transparency, I am including my worst photographs as well. This is uncurated shooting. I know many of my photographic shortcomings and you may step away from watching this with a different perspective on my photographic capabilities. It is a risk I am willing to take.

1. I am interacting with my kid and a little sloppy with my framing. Some of the out of focus images have more to do with my in ability to use the camera properly (i.e., shooting while keeping a kid from falling off a swing) than with the camera itself.
I probably am over shooting in this demonstration because it is a demonstration and I am a little nervous

2. For most of the shoot I am using AF-S single point mode focusing and recomposing, but also use the three square area AF-S mode.

3. Yeah, I know I should have changed up modes and stuff to be more complete, but hey, hopefully this gets you started.

Did you keep the focus square in the middle or did you move the focus square around?

Great video, your daughter is really adorable. I have found that even with all the latest firmware updates on my XT2, the 23 1.4 is still a little slower than other lenses in focusing.

Could you share the metering mode were you used?
As I saw the exposure is 100% correct for the kids even under a bright sunlight, that mean you are using SPOT metering?
    Thanks

Great video! I also have an XT2/35f2 that I use primarily to take pictures of my toddler and was wondering: which autofocus settings do you use? I know taking pictures of kids is one of the more demanding tasks to ask of a camera, and I’m always looking for ways to up my “keeper” rate. Thanks!

Cuteness overload. You seem like a good dad. Can you explain how you get 1/3200 on the shutter dial on the Fuji XT2. Thanks!
