can you make a comparison between iphone 13 ,14 all the pro and non pro versions side by side , it would be great to see that.

I’d love to see the same comparison with a canon R5 or R3 which I find superior to Sony for photos.

You guys have the camera spec all wrong. iPhone selife does not have 24mm f1.78 lens. You have the focal length in FF equivalent and native aperture. Can't mix and match them.

That is kind of silly. If you are trying to match depth of iPhone by shooting pro camera at high Fstop and you are comparing one photo against photo composite, that is just not fair especially shooting at night. Also IPhone cameras are all paired with prime lenses. Pair Sony A1 with prime lenses and redo. This is not a best to best comparison as is. This is more like, let's match pro camera to what iPhone does.
I do like what I am seeing from iPhone I wish my s22 did that.

Watching on my 4k monitor, I got 28 for A1, 7 for iPhone, and 3 I didn't mind either. The iPhone is very impressive for a tiny camera lens, but I still find so many of the images over sharpened to the extent that they look too fake, my eye's just don't see the real world with such crispiness! I wonder if this is down to post processing, or still baked in to the Apple RAW files. I'm also not convinced by the HDR, yes more of the scene range is visible but again it doesn't look natural, in the real world we'd squint when looking at a dark foreground with a bright back light, which naturally blows out the highlights. To be fair the iPhone HDR does look better on a high dynamic range screen such as the iPhone itself, so may that more an issue of trying to compress the dynamic range for viewing on a non HDR screen.

You guys are making it wrong. Like if iPhone is shooting with F1.7 but you are not adding 1.8 prime on Mirrorless, plus you allow or not allow iPhone will do it's processing but you wont let the mirrorless to be processed with the lightroom AI. I mean this is just a not compatible with fairness.

The fact that this comparison is even worthy of doing speaks volume, rarely do you see a gadget be compared with such price difference, with the iphone just 10% the price of the Sony. And the fact that it even wins in some or many areas in some cases is just proof of how the iphone or camera phones in general have come a long way. Great comparison again really enjoy these kind of videos

Am I the one finding it extremely distracting that Angelica is chewing gum this entire video? It's visible, it's audible. It would drive me nuts in real life, where you can't just skip the video.

I'm surprised Vadim couldn't tell which photo of the girl with the iphone in portrait mode, the omitted tiny hairs in front of the fake bokeh give it away. Also surprised he preferred the iphone for the girl portrait lol.

IMO portrait mode doesn't make hair look great.

The image and processing quality of the iPhone's camera is great, but the thing that still trips me up is the simple fact that a shallow lens ruins the perspective of many of the photos I take. A long lens on a dedicated camera is so much better at capturing things like landscapes. Of course, I've yet to try the iPhone 14 Pro. Perhaps things have improved in recent years…?

you cannot compare the iPhone in the dark with a 3-second exposure time with the Sony on a 1/10 exposure time. Yeah you are going to get a lot noise on the Sony with those settings 16:48

I legit think that the Sony camera was put up unfairly. It feels like the subjects were not in focus at all, to begin with (especially with the photo of the woman at 3:56 ). We all know that high-quality cameras are amazing when in focus. You guys should look into re-shooting the test to get a better comparison

Also, a professional camera is well, for professionals. No professional will take a Raw file and say "I dont want to use a bunch of brushes in photoshop". A raw image is known for having a lot of detail but that detail comes up only after properly editing the image

I feel like the Sony wasn’t working correctly. Mainly with the autofocus. Maybe the camera needs to go through a micro adjust for the lens to compensate. It shouldn’t be performing so poorly.

On that note, the iPhone looks to be over sharpening a lot, but it’s effective.

I appreciate how much work y'all do for this type video. Thank you so much. Question for you, on the 14 Pro what is the main lens that you prefer? Do you just go by the situation or do you have a go to?

The reason a lot of photographers are chiming in about preferring the DSLR look is because y’all just used to that.
The better judge on this is an average consumer that gets to see both smartphone shots and professional shots when they have events.

Not someone that’s been comparing professional cameras and lenses for years. Y’all are out of tune with what the average consumer wants to see.

The one thing I hate about using a DSLR is the lack of computational processing that the iPhone can do. This means I have to do a lot of Photoshop work to get photos to look like what the iPhone does without any work. Since the iPhone can automatically do HDR to improve photos, it does what DSLRs cannot do or cannnot do very well without alot of manual labor.

The Crop Portrait was so obvious which one is which. The Portrait with the Red Bench Behind was also so obvious. But Choosing iPhone 14 Pro was completely Biased and makes no sense. It's like Vadim is paid to choose iPhone 14 forcibly. Neutral view would be really appreciated.
The Crop picture the blur inconsistent looks funny when compared to the Sony. Same with the next portrait, her hair gone in iPhone along with unnatural heavy blur on the red Bench background and unnatural skin tone. Individually it is good but when compared to the Sony it doesn't even compete. Sony looks perfect blur, skintone and natural. So it is biased on those photos. @vadim And also it is so obvious then he is acting surprised once the names revealed!! 😀 I mean seriously?

I thought it was quite easy to tell the two apart tbh. iPhone still looks like it was shot on a phone with a tiny digital sensor, that being said, apples computational photography is A1. Seriously good auto exposure and focus for a phone. If you see iPhone video in real estate videos the shadows look terribly noisy and you can see the compression.

Was I the only one that picked the Sony A1 pictures most of the time? 😅The iphone 14 pro photos look great, but you can tell that the Sony A1 photos were shot with a professional camera

  41. Philippe Gagnon Avatar

I was going to give a thumbs down, but thought the video was a good example to demonstrate that an expensive camera doesn't take good photos if you don't put in the effort to understand how ISO, shutter speed and aperture work together. 1:23 1:46 3:49 8:24 -> It's not the A1 that sucks, it's the aperture that isn't equivalent to the iphone. They don't have the same sensor size, you have keep that in mind. The F stop between them is not a 1:1 equivalent ortherwise with the iphone at F1.78 you then would say the iphone sucks because not much would be in focus.

That's why they put fake bokeh on the phones. Limited by a smaller aperture, most of the time everything in focus (great) then slap a fake bokeh and everybody is happy.

In the end gave a thumbs down. Video clickbait and a bit misleading.
