NOTE: Of course the white balance differs per light situation (daylight/studio lights and whether it’s a sunny day (more yellow) or maybe an overcast day (more blue). I’m just sharing MY white balance in the studio 🙂
My White Balance for Newborn, Baby and Cake Smash Photography (in Kelvin). This video includes Camera settings and Behind the scenes!
Here’s some of the items I use or a regular basis:
– camera’s Nikon D750 and Nikon D610
– lens Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8 for studio work
– lens Tamron 90mm F/2.8 MACRO VC for Macro shots (baby details and wedding rings for example)
– lens Sigma Art 105mm F1.4 for outdoor sessions
– For Newborns, Babies and Cake Smashes: Godox Speedlite V860II Nikon X-PRO Duo kit with softbox Westcott 50 inch Recessed Front Apollo JS
– For Portraits: Godox AD400 pro with Caruba Beauty Disk and/or Caruba Parabolic Sotbox
– For Newborns: Round backdrop stand Paloma Schell Classic Stand
– vinyl backdrops and
– floormat white distressed wood
– cake smash bathtub and Flokati’s
– Vlog camera Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II compact camera

IMPORTANT
If you are interested in photographing newborn babies yourself I would highly recommend you to first learn about photography in general. Master you camera, photograph in the Manual mode, learn about aperture, iso, shutter speed, white balance, light and composition. Take photos of your friends (adults or very patient older kids) and make sure you don’t have to think about your camera anymore when photographing babies. Learn about editing as well. Please, don’t experiment photographing Newborn babies without training. Attend a workshop by an experienced and professional photographer with an expertise in Newborn Photography. Learn about the anatomy of babies and invest in good quality cameras, lenses and props. Babies are extremely vulnerable and small and their safety and comfort should be your highest priority. Start with simple poses and make sure you know and understand that many ‘pinterest poses’ are composites. Please, don’t try this at home. If you want beautiful photos of your own Newborn Baby, I highly recommend you to hire a professional and experienced photographer who is trained and specialised in Newborn Photography.

Do you use a zoom lens for the cake smash session? or do you just get closer for detail shots?
I would love to hear your thoughts on newborn photo editing in a future video. Do you prefer the minimal re-touched look? How much time do you spend on editing your images and the process that works for you. I’m really enjoying watching your videos. ☺️
"This video includes Camera settings and Behind the scenes!" NO it doesn't. White balance stated at 8:42 mark, the rest of the video is music and her shooting, same stuff as other baby shoots. If you've seen one, this is the same. Doesn't explain how to adjust your camera for white balance, which is why I watched this. Doesn't explain camera settings, as she says the video will. Not her best video

Hi, I understand you use a 24-70 lens, I was wondering whether you tend to stay at a certain length to avoid distortion at such close distances. I cannot decide between getting a 50mm or a 24-70. I use an 85mm at moment which i feel too long. Would love to know your thoughts.
