Ponniyin Selvan: 1 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language epic period action film directed by Mani Ratnam, who co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Produced by Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, it is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan. The film stars an ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R. Parthiban.

எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக, கல்கி ஒரு உண்மையான வரலாற்று ஆசிரியர் அல்ல. மற்ற எழுத்தாளர்கள் போல அவரும் ஒரு காவிய எழுத்தாளர். அவ்வளவு தான்.
இந்த இந்திய மண்ணுக்கும் மக்களுக்கும் பண்பாட்டிற்கும், நாகரீகங்களுக்கும் மூல குடிகளான பாண்டியர்களையும் அவர்களின் அரசுகளையும் இழிபடுத்தும் நோக்கத்துடன் செயல்பட்டு ஒரு காலமும் வெற்றி பெற்றுவிட முடியாது.
இந்தியாவின் பூர்வீக மூல குடிகளான பாண்டிய இனத்தை வெல்ல எந்த கொம்பனாலும் முடியாது என்பதை எழுதி வைத்து கொள்வது நல்லது.
மதுரையில் இன்றும் வளமுடன் அந்த மீனாட்சி தாய் ஆட்சி நடத்திகொண்டு மக்களை காத்து நிற்கின்றாள்.
மதுரை இன்றும் தூங்கா நகரமாக செல்வ செழிப்புடன் இயங்கி கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. அனைத்து மக்களுக்கும் அருள்பாலித்து கொண்டுள்ளாள் தாய் மீனாட்சி.
தஞ்சை ஏன் புகழ்பெற வில்லை…? ஏன் மதுரை மீனாட்சி திருகோவில் போல தஞ்சை பெரிய கோவில் புகழ் பெற வில்லை..? சோழர்களின் மூலமும் பாண்டிய குலத்திலேயே தான் அடங்கும்… அவர்களும் பாண்டிய குடிகள் தான் ஆனால் பிற்கால சோழர்கள் தெலுங்கு கலப்பில் பிறந்தவர்கள் அவர்கள் எப்பொழுது மற்றவர்களின் தூண்டுதலில் பூர்வீக குடிகளான பாண்டியர்களை அழிக்க துணிந்தார்களோ..? அன்றே தஞ்சை சாபத்தில் வீழ்ந்து இன்று வரை அது மீளமுடியாமல் இருக்கிறது என்பதே மறுக்க முடியாத உண்மை.
தஞ்சை பெரிய கோவிலுக்கு சென்றவன் அத்துடன் ஒன்னுமில்லாமல் போவான் என்பதை இன்று வரை அனுபவமாக மக்களால் உணர முடியும்.
இந்தியாவின் பூர்வீகமான பொதிகையை ஆன்மீக தலைநகராக கொண்டு இயங்கும் பாண்டியர்களை இழிவுபடுத்துவதை இத்துடன் நிறுத்தி கொள்ளுங்கள். அது மிகவும் ஆபத்து. அது உங்களுக்கு எப்போதும் வெற்றியை தராது என்பதை கூறி கொள்கிறோம்.

Mani Ratnam is a person I still admire to this day, he always emphasizes quality in filmmaking, I still remember when he gave his trust to Shaad Ali to direct the Hindi version of Alaipayuthey I was very quite disappointed, I know Shaad Ali's directing style cannot be the same with Mani sir.. until today when I listen a song from the movie Saathiya my imagination goes straight to Alaipayuthey's video clip instead of Saathiya
