The one thing that is important to me in a back pack is the shoulder strap clip. With that clip, I can anchor a light stand or a tripod without worrying the wind will knock it over. And no, I do not carry sand bags (unless I go to the beach and fill and empty them there). You can also fill an empty gallon water jug, and put it inside the backpack for extra stability.

Great set up…I usually do the 17-55 2.8 on my D500 and the tamron G2 70-200 on my D850…I've noticed that I tend to use the 70-200 more…I like portraits more.

Usually I bring two bags. One with cameras, standard zoom (24-70) and tele zoom (70-200) and backups. second bag with at least 3 speedlights and triggers (yongnuo's) a couple of softboxes, and a couple of light stands. The second bag is a roller backpack, so I can drag it along, or carry it by a handle. Usually for portraits we are not too far from the car.

Nice gear! Have you ever tried to set up BOTH of your cameras at the same time to give slightly different angles/looks to your portraits? I am pretty sure that with the very, very inexpensive Yongnuo RF-603 II Wireless Triggers for Nikon (10-pin ) you can put those on your cameras and then hold one trigger in your hand and fire off both cameras simultaneously. You could set the second camera slightly to the side, or lower or higher, or closer or farther away, or whatever you want. Your family is probably expecting a fairly "vanilla" shot, but with that second camera you could get really creative.

The triggers come in pairs, so you would need to buy two pairs (total of 4 triggers bought, using 3 of them at a time). That would only be a total of $60.

Getting TWO different looks with one press of a trigger could be fun to play around with. After all, you went to the trouble of packing and carrying both of those cameras and multiple lenses.

(Just make sure that bratty little kid doesn't run over and knock over your second camera or put sticky fingers on it, though. Family or not, that would cross a line. 🙂
