Drawing from real life and creating a record of real life is a real turning point in the creation of the art movement as a movement! Making creating art for everyone not just for the rich or the church and education of the common people!
I am learning soft pastels and I have been drawing from my drawing classes in college for blocking in my areas and main shapes and of course watching pastel videos by Artists I admire! I hope you are going to be creating more videos with this sketch with me focus!
This is a good series as it's always fun to see an artist practice. I have got into digital sketching recently because I got a new tablet an its so fun to exercise those drawing muscles again. Just drawing anything from photos really. It will be fun to look back when you finish the series and see some improvement. I find I am improving just after a few daily drawings. But digital art is very alien to me so I'm leaning a lot.
If you ever end up in downtown Miami I highly recommend checking out the Perez Art Museum of Miami, the art there is absolutely amazing and very inspiring
I am new (at 76 years old) to drawing and my biggest fear for some reason is doing just what you are doing in this video. Right now I sit in a room and draw from a reference. I am finding that my shading is getting pretty good, but my originality is lacking. I am glad to see that this is not that uncommon and you are forcing yourself to be spontaneous and draw "live". Hopefully, I can do that some day ——- and hide the output. 🙂

My fav tools are toned grey paper and pencil/charcoal also. Try the faber castell matt pencils that go up to 14B and don’t have the shine that graphite has. They are not expensive and work well on the toned grey.

Ive been watching for awhile now and just wanna say "thanks" for always being so open about mistakes. I always find myself in that spot, where things look good then fall apart bc of a line or looking at it from another angle… seeing that you also have those moments and are able to call it out, either fix it or chalk it up to practice and move on has helped me a ton in keeping my confidence up and progressing
Really appreciate these types of videos in addition to ur finished pieces. I think it’s important to show the gritty unfinished sketching process. That is a big part of it and I enjoy seeing ur process. Helps me as an artist to potentially learn new techniques or try mediums i wouldn’t normally use. So thank you

Seem pretty epic to me but yes I get you, I’ve had a lot more additions to the shelf of shame (or maybe need a positive here – shelf of future situational inspirations ) lately and it’s tricky filming knowing the video is fine but the art didn’t turn out as I wanted. I think these sketches are amazing 😊
Keep going 🔥 it's good to sharp our needed skills, that's why moments like these are so important.
So many reasons to draw randomly. For me it’s working on the human anatomy, getting it right. I would love to say I do that well, but I struggle with the most common fears of drawing hands and feet, eve though I am a seasoned artist. But drawing just hands and feet during a practice session allows me to understand the foundation of those elements.
As you mentioned, the angle in where you hold your paper for drawing is important. I’ve seen many people even turn the paper like they were going to write, and then start drawing. The problem is the image is skewed. I too love my paper to be at roughly a 45 degree angle, or a 90 degree angle, depending on what I’m doing.
Sketching is also a great way to work out composition as well as perspective. I will do several drawings of the same subject just to see where placement of a subject may be, or even if the subject is too tall or too short in the drawing.
Love your sketch time! It’s not about showing us a perfect drawing, but showing us your thought process. It may indeed help us overcome our drawing fears.❤❤
