The labor shortage in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic is causing some states to roll back child labor regulations. What are the implications?

Would you be ok with your young barely adult daughter or son working in a bar with sleazy, drunk people coming to most likely harass them inappropriately every single day. With little to no oversight in the work enviroment by the government o authority.

Of course not, but since the daughters and sons of senators don't have to work such jobs THEY DON'T CARE.

Imagine having a political party that actually cared for and represented law abiding, working class citizens. Wouldn’t that be amazing!

Migrants need jobs— we need a guest worker program. Not child slaves.

Well, when you let in millions of illegal immigrants, many of whom are children, through a porous southern border there is always someone going to take advantage. Democrats get millions new mail in voters and big corporations get child labor. Win-win for the unscrupulous.

I wish I could have worked when I was a kid. It would have helped my mom pay the bills and would have further developed my character. Why does child labor always have to be portrayed as slavery? lol

The US is going to be sending latino/Latina children out to work slave labor jobs ……. generic white people & ADOS/FAB children are NOT the real target… I’m will to bet latinos/Latinas will happily sacrifice their young … but that’s none of my business though…🤗

Profits are slumping. Its basically "child sacrifice" for Wall Street. "Oh we are just trying to help the children" Meanwhile Timmy is working and trying to keep up with school and homework.

If they aren't being forced to work the government needs to keep their greedy hands off. Stop telling a company who they can and can't hire you communist.

I honestly think this isn't all bad. I remember my daughter wanting to work and there were so many restrictions on what a teenager was allowed to do, that most businesses wouldn't hire her. What does that leave them to do? Babysit or work under the table jobs (where they aren't getting anything paid into their Social Security benefits or workers comp) — or — get into trouble.

Of course, there need to be sane rules in place, but not allowing kids to work results in things like kids getting into drugs or stupid tic tok stunts, and keeps them from learning about how to behave in the workplace and responsibility. It's just silly to think they have to wait until they're an adult at 18, and then they'll magically know how to behave. But, we put so many child labor laws into place that decent employers were too limited in hiring kids.

Why. It's because corporate greed they don't want to pay able adults a living wage. Late Capitalism.

Why does the GOP only want to bring the worst of everything back?
You can pretty much guarantee that any advance we have made as a society in the last 100 years, they will try to undo it 1 way or the other, all while using pretty words to make it sound good.

Republicans no longer support public education, so this would work out for them.

I don't think the answer is to hire illegal immigrants, it's putting the natural born citizens out of work, creating financial issues for them.

Republicans don't want kids to be educated. Just smart enough to run a machine is good enough. Any more and they might start to question things.

if you have workers that do rough and dangerous work you should treat them better!
