It looks like you need some more time with the A1. For me, it rarely misses or disappoints, not even in low contrast, noisy back or foreground situations. But you need to know when and how to focus in which mode and also where to focus on on your subject. Sometimes it's also better when DMF is activated or Eye-AF is off. It's nothing very complicated or complex, but it takes some sessions before you really know and understand how the AF is working or let's say where it's not working good enough.
Wrong The α1 offers an extraordinary combination of high resolution and blazing speed. Ultra-fast readout from the 50.1 MP sensor allows continuous bursts at up to 30 fps2 with AF and AE tracking using the electronic shutter.
Maybe select a more appropriate focus point ..

Mountain blue birds look gorgeous ! Love the photos ! I wish sony would allow animal/bird eye detection for video recording on the Sony A7S3 sounds like a problem with other models !
Check if your running the latest firmware it’s mind blowing compared to the previous.

Situations like this is where Sony's "AF Assist" feature would come in handy. Unfortunately, it's not available on the A1. Autofocus assist is available on the A7IV, A7RV, FX30 and FX3 and allows you to manually adjust the lens focus ring while shooting in autofocus. Once the new focus target is acquired, and you stop adjusting the ring, the autofocus kicks back in and latches on to the new target. Have you ever used it on any of the other Sony models?
I have seen both your videos of the A1, and it's one of the best cameras out there! I would love if you could get the chance to try canon r5 and compare those two! If I could choose I would put an A1 in a canon body (or Nikon). But I can't describe the body of Sony, I have held so many in my hands but none of them is comfortable. I dont know why, if they are to small or to plastic and slippery. But thats just my opinion on the body, the tech is world class! (But I will choose Canon over Sony for the feeling of the camera in my hand)
